25th Reunion
Class Giving
Dear Fellow '79er,
Is there anything to look forward to in your forties other than gaining weight, losing your hair or experiencing a mid-life crisis? Of course there is! Your 25th Reunion! And one of the great Punahou traditions is the 25th Reunion Class Gift. This gives us the opportunity to "give back" to a school that provided us with a solid educational foundation, opportunities to form lasting relationships, and many memories (some fond, some not-so-fond!).
For our 25th Reunion class gift, we have pledged our support to the new Case Middle School currently under construction. This extraordinary project is the culmination of extensive research and investigation on educational models, adolescent development, learning concepts and design and construction techniques. It will provide the 6th, 7th and 8th graders with an evolutionary new learning environment designed to develop all academic, cultural and social facets of middle school students.
So, we're asking each of you to consider making a pledge towards our 25th Reunion Class Gift which, as mentioned, will go to supporting the new Case Middle School.
We have set two goals for our class. First, 100 percent participation. This has never been done before. The highest class participation was 80 percent but we think we can do better. Secondly, we would also like to break the record set last year by the class of '78 of $175,270 so we've set our goal at $179,000. We think we can attain both but we really need your help.
If you've never given in the past, there's no better time than now. If you've given before, thank you and we hope you'll give again in support of reaching our class goals and giving to a very worthy project.
Your contribution may be in the form of a check, credit card (good way to get more frequent flyer miles), stock transfer (perfect way to "relieve" the IRS of burdensome capital gains taxes), or a pledge that can be spread over 3 years. It's tax deductible and is helping to perpetuate the educational excellence you experienced.
Also, please check with your employer as many companies will match employee gifts to charitable organizations.
If you don't already have enough incentive to give this year, the Kelley family has offered to challenge the reunion classes of 2004 (all classes ending in '4s and '9s) to raise a collective one million dollars. If we're successful, the Kelley family will match that gift with an additional $1,000,000!
Just as we benefited from those anonymous donors that gave before us, we are indebted to provide for those after us, leaving the school in a better standing than how we found it.
Be sure to read the Class Giving FAQ. Please feel free to contact any of the committee members if you have questions. For more information on Case Middle School, go to the school's website.
This is a great opportunity for the Class of '79 to "shine" once again. Let's make the most of it as we lend our support to Punahou School and celebrate our 25th reunion.
Mahalo,
